Happy International Nurses' Day to our Nursing Staff

NCH&C would like to wish a very Happy International Nurses’ Day to all our nurses and nursing staff.

The World Health Organisation declared 2020 ‘The Year of the Nurse & Midwife’: a year-long event recognising the work of nursing professionals everywhere. Of course, this celebration was overshadowed by the height of the pandemic. After what has been a gruelling year for all healthcare professionals, International Nurses’ Day 2021 is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the contribution of our hard-working nurses.

Our CEO, Josie Spencer, offers the following message of thanks to all our nurses on International Nurses’ Day:

“The COVID-19 pandemic cast a shadow over 2020, a year that should have been celebrated as the World Health Organisation’s Year of The Nurse & Midwife. Instead, nurses around the world have worked harder than ever.

Before I was CEO of the trust, I was first and foremost a nurse. In my many years of service for the NHS, I have never experienced such challenging circumstances as the last year has delivered. Despite the hardships of the pandemic, NCH&C’s nursing staff have gone above and beyond to deliver care and compassion that is humbling to witness. Thank you so much for all you have done.”

Our Director of Nursing & Quality, Carolyn Fowler, also wished to share a message of appreciation for all nursing staff:

“International Nurses’ Day is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the outstanding contribution that our nursing staff have delivered throughout the pandemic. Seeing how our staff have risen to the challenges of increased workloads, difficult conditions, and redeployment makes me proud to be Director of Nursing and Quality at NCH&C.

The theme of this year’s International Nurses’ Day is ‘a vision for future healthcare’. Looking ahead to the future, I know that our nurses will always show the same resilience and commitment displayed during the pandemic, but hopefully applied in less challenging circumstances.

On Nurses’ Day 2021, I’d also like to honour a new addition to the nursing family at NCH&C: our first cohort of Trainee Nursing Associates have just completed their apprenticeships. This has not been an easy time to complete an apprenticeship, but they succeeded with grace and talent.”

NCH&C will be marking International Nurses’ Day with a social media exhibition. Keep an eye on our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages throughout the day, where we’ll be sharing a series of images that represent community nursing from the past year.
