NCH&C Apprentice wins at the Apprenticeship Norfolk Awards 2021

Hazel Pankhurst, Apprentice Healthcare Assistant, NCH&C was awarded the award for ‘Achievement in Exceptional Circumstances” at the Apprenticeship Norfolk Awards 2021.

Hazel began her Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship in 2019 aged 16, based Ogden Court. However, after just seven months of working in healthcare, the first wave of COVID-19 became prevalent in the area. As a result of the pandemic, the ward was converted to ‘End of Life’ care.

Throughout this challenging time, Hazel has supported her colleagues and patients, delivering safe and effective care with a compassionate and caring approach. She showed courage, asking valuable questions, challenging areas of practice and offering practical solutions whilst taking on extra tasks. She showed respect for her patients and because relatives had limited or no visiting time, she spend many hours with patients talking to them about their life, family and memories to fill their time and comfort them when they could not see their loved ones.
