NCH&C is a great place to work and receive care – our NHS Staff Survey 2020 results

The number of staff recommending NCH&C as a place to work and receive care has continued to increase year on year.

The national NHS Staff Survey results were released today, Thursday 11 March, and show:

  • 72% of staff recommend the organisation as a place to work, up from 67% in 2019.
  • 82% of staff say if a friend/relative needed treatment they would be happy with the standard of care provided by organisation, up from 80% in 2019.
  • 82% of staff say the care of patients is the organisation’s top priority, up from 77% in 2019.

More than 1,200 staff participated in the survey last year, representing 56% of the organisation.

NCH&C’s CEO, Josie Spencer, said: “It is no secret that the past year has been one of the most challenging, both personally and professionally. Whilst there have been no statistically significant changes this year, I am very proud of how staff have worked relentlessly to provide safe patient care, despite the ever-changing landscape and increase in demand. I also was pleased to see that staff recommending NCH&C, both as a place to work and receive treatment, has continued to improve.

“The results confirm that we are moving in the right direction, but we recognise there is still more to do. As restrictions ease over the coming year, we hope to give staff more opportunities to make positive changes to NCH&C. The health and wellbeing of our staff will continue to be a key focus and we will be prioritising the delivery of more flexible working opportunities for staff, as set out in the NHS People Plan.

“I’d like to once again thank everyone who took the time, in an already busy period, to complete the NHS Staff Survey. Only by gaining your feedback can we implement improvements to your working experience. We will be addressing all areas of concern to ensure that our staff and patients have the right level of support in place.”

The trust will work with staff on a local level to embed changes where the survey showed the need for improvement.
