5 July 2023 will be a day Operational Lead, Liz Catavitello, and Nursing Associate, Kim Holland, will never forget. The two NCH&C colleagues were given the opportunity to represent NCH&C at a special reception at 10 Downing Street in London to celebrate 75 years of the NHS.

Despite not having met before, Kim and Liz quickly established a firm friendship once they met up in London.

Once inside, it was time to meet other staff representing their NHS departments at the reception. Liz said: “It was so interesting to meet staff from across other NHS trusts. There were HCAs, nurses, AHPs, paramedics, GPs, Directors of Nursing, Medical Directors, and Chiefs of various places.

“It was lovely to rub shoulders with some staff who had worked for the NHS for over 50 years. Most people were dressed smartly, and some had come straight from the service at Westminster Abbey and looked dressed for a wedding. Others were in uniform: looking new, ironed, and pressed.”

“There’s something awe-inspiring about walking into number 10 and up those famous stairs with all the portraits of Prime Ministers. We felt like we were in Love Actually! The chandeliers, artwork and gold décor were stunning.

“We briefly met Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and then heard from Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Steve Barclay. We mingled, enjoyed the delicious canapes, spoke to kind, caring and hardworking staff, and had a real giggle. It was a once in a lifetime experience – an honour and a privilege. A day we’ll remember forever.”

Kim said: “It’s been an absolute honour to represent the trust at No 10 and spend the day of celebration with Liz. I will remember it for ever. Such a special day.

“When I arrived home an NHS 75 thank you card from NCH&C was waiting for me to finish off a very special day!”

Liz concluded: “One of the best things from the day was forging a new friendship. Kim is lovely, a riot! I look forward to any excuse to get us together in future again”.
