STARs of the month – October 2024
Congratulations to Madeline Thurston, Receptionist at St James and Mica Burgess, Registered Nursing Associate at Watton on being selected as joint winners for NCH&C ‘October STAR of the Month’.
This award recognises the commitment and dedication of staff members who give a service that is over and above what is expected of them in order to make a difference to patients, visitors and/or their colleagues. They embody our values and behaviours and deserve a special thank you in recognition for going above and beyond.
Maddie was chosen for continuously thinking of ways to improve patient and staff experience, including doing research into developing an inclusive waiting area to make the area more comfortable for people with neurodevelopmental conditions. Maddie was nominated for a STAR of recognition badge by Julie Friend, who said; “I truly feel that Maddie is so deserving of this honour. She constantly shows compassion, dignity, integrity – all of this with a welcoming smile – you could not get a better patient first impression of the trust and all we stand for.”
Mica was also selected for the accolade as despite being busy studying for a nursing degree, Mica has regularly volunteered for additional hours to help the team during significant staff shortages demonstrating an exceptional level of flexibility to put patients first. A team member commented; “Her patients never know that we are short staffed & that she is stretched – she is always so calm and caring.”
Each month, Matthew Winn, CEO will select a Star of the Month from our STAR of Recognition winners (formerly known as Badge of Recognition). The new STAR of the Month award forms part of NCH&C’s new Star Programme – our ‘sharing thanks and recognition’ scheme – which rewards outstanding internal achievements.
