What has NCH&C done to support staff wellbeing during COVID-19

During the last 18 months, NCH&C has provided support and resources to help staff deal with an unprecedented time.

Here is a handy list of the some of the additional things the trust has provided:

  • An extra day of annual leave for all substantive staff for the leave year 2021/22
  • Refreshment boxes (supported by UNISON) sent to all staff areas across the trust which included teas, coffee, biscuits, sugar and milk
  • Chocolate was sent to staff working from home
  • The Executive Directors sent thank you cards to every member of staff in recognition of all the work everyone has done
  • Free food has been provided for all staff at hubs
  • Cooling towels were provided for use during hot weather
  • Lightweight uniforms were funded
  • We have worked with local and national NHS charities to provide coffee machines, refreshments, laundry bags, mask extenders etc
  • We arranged for South Lincs Food to visit our sites and deliver to staff on site in the early stages of the pandemic to avoid them having to go to the supermarket
  • Staff rest areas were improved including adding new fridges, freezers, shower areas, new crockery and cutlery
  • We provided accommodation for those staff who needed it
  • We launched new web pages dedicated to Wellbeing (here!) and a brand new My NCHC app to ensure staff could have easier access to communications
  • We collated and provided a range of financial wellbeing information
  • Provided psychological advice and support to staff that needed it from our psychologists
  • We extended discretionary leave allowance
  • We worked with local providers to support childcare provision at a reduced rate during the school holidays last year

The public and local businesses have also been very generous and donated:

  • Ralph Lauren clothing (which we raffled in aid of our Charitable Fund)
  • NCFC team shirt (which we raffled in aid of our Charitable Fund)
  • Easter eggs
  • Toiletries and treats that we made into wellbeing bags which managers nominated staff to receive
  • Hand creams
  • Handmade items for use with PPE such as ear extenders and washing bags (in addition to the ones we purchased)

We know that the challenge of maintaining staff wellbeing is a long term one, and we very much commit to continuing to offer practical, relevant and accessible help and support.
