Aaron, Admin Assistant

My Apprenticeship Journey

“When I finished my A-Levels I decided that university wasn’t for me so applied for jobs and apprenticeships that interested me to keep my options open. I started working for NCH&C as an apprentice in the Learning Education and Development (LEAD) Team and was enrolled onto a NVQ Level 2 in Business and Administration.

“About eight months into my apprenticeship a permanent post became available in the team which I applied for and was successful. I would be stepping up in terms of the complexity of the work and being more independent with managing my workload. I was delighted as I really wanted my apprenticeship to lead onto a permanent post at NCH&C.

“Today, I’m still in the LEAD Team in my Admin Assistant role and since completing my Level 2 NVQ I have also gone on to complete my Level 3 and most recently my Level 4 NVQ in Business and Administration.

“I enjoy my current role which involves supporting and planning of training and would like to stay in an admin role, working my way up the ladder. The same applies in terms of qualifications in the future perhaps taking Level 5 in Business or similar, that would relate to helping me progress.

“I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship. I have gained experience in a supportive work environment and learnt valuable skills.”
