We’re looking for OTs to join our Outstanding community NHS trust.
Occupational Therapists play a very important role in the NHS, and the lives of its patients. OTs help patients maintain their independence, adapting their homes and routines to manage injury, illness, aging, disability, or long-term health conditions. As an OT in the community or on one of our wards, you’ll help patients and service users overcome everyday challenges to improve their quality of life and overall health.
The exact work an Occupational Therapist does depends on where you work: the work of a community OT visiting patients in their homes will look different to the day-to-day activities of an Occupational Therapist based in a community hospital or health centre.
Here are just some of the things an OT at NCH&C may do…
- Assess patients and prescribe occupational therapy treatment packages to improve quality of life for patients with long-term health conditions, the frail and elderly, palliative care needs, or rehabilitation needs
- Advise on and arrange adaptations for patients’ homes, working environments, schools, or care homes
- Teach patients to use techniques and equipment that will improve their quality of life
- Work with the integrated care team to prevent unnecessary admissions to hospital and to facilitate early discharge from hospital
- Keep patient records, care plans, and other paperwork up to date
- Provide clinical expertise and advice to others, including Social Services, GPs and other agencies
- Communicate clearly and a build a rapport with patients and their families and carers

Occupational therapy jobs: skills and qualifications
- Graduate diploma or 1st level degree in Occupational Therapy
- Current HCPC Registration
- Clinical Educators Qualification
- Able to problem solve and analyse situations
- Flexible to work with patients’ needs
- Good interpersonal skills with both colleagues and service users
- Good IT skills
- Calm under pressure
- Organised, punctual, with great time management skills
