Celebrate We Care Day on 14 February

On 14 February 2023 we celebrate NCH&C’s 2nd annual We Care Day. An initiative started last year by EDI Advisor Mercy Kaggwa, We Care Day is a designated day to champion our staff networks and encourage allyship with the communities within them. Mercy says – “We Care Day is a bespoke trust initiative that we created to promote belonging across the organisation, hence why our staff network logos state “We Care”. However, it’s not just about belonging to the staff networks, but about a sense of belonging to our organisation. We Care Day is an initiative to support our developing organisation culture and celebrates the many cultures that make up NCH&C.”

In the year since we last celebrated, we have:

  • Created two new staff networks – LGBTQ+ and Diverse Abilities (alongside the newly rebranded Diverse Heritage network).
  • Changed the pledge process for the networks to encourage staff to be vocal about their reasons for joining as a member or an ally, and to protect the communities themselves.
  • Appointed a volunteer Staff Carer’s lead who is dedicated to supporting staff carers. Read about Diane here.
  • Appointed a new co-chair for the Diverse Abilities staff network. Read more about Cat here.
  • Organised and attended various events – Championing Career Development and Culture, attending Norwich Pride, attending the Disability Summit in London, and a candle light vigil at The Forum in Norwich.
